Essential 3

Quality Improvement & Safety

This competency uses the best available evidence to continuously improve the quality of clinical practice. Evaluates the relationships among access, cost, quality, and safety and their influence on health care. Evaluates how organized structure, care processes, financing, marketing, and policy decisions impact the quality of health care. This competency applies skills in peer review to promote a culture of excellence, and anticipates variations in practice, and is proactive in implementing interventions to ensure quality.

I feel I have met this competency by improving my ability to research various diseases, disease processes, and treatments. By using evidence-based research, I will be able to analyze and interpret changes that are indicative of illness and apply knowledge and research findings to my practice to manage the primary care problems of my patients.

The assignments I chose for this Essential are my Osteoporosis PowerPoint from Advanced Pharmacology and my group's Mock IRB form from Research.

Essential 3: About

Quality Improvement and Safety

Additional assignments I used to show how I met this competency include a discussion board post from week 3 of Pharmacology and my reflective Journal-week 1, from clinical in Adult and Geriatrics.
I chose to submit my Discussion Board posts from Pharmacology/ Week 3 because of the information on safely prescribing medication for my patients. There are many important reflections within the Pharmacology DBs, and I will be incorporating that valuable information into my practice.
I feel I met this essential with my reflective journal from Adult and Geriatrics because of the simplicity and calmness it gives me by journaling my experiences in clinical.
