Essential 8
Clinical Prevention and Population Health for Improving Health
This competency applies and integrates broad, organizational, client-centered, and culturally appropriate concepts in the planning, delivery, management, and evaluation of evidence-based clinical prevention and population care to individuals, families, and populations. Designs and delivers clinical prevention interventions and population-based care that promotes health and reduce the risk of or prevention of disease.
I feel I have met this Essential by exploring evidence-based practice, conducting experiments for the benefits of patient care, and diving into health promotion through research and evaluation.
The assignments I chose to showcase here are from Research, where my group and I did a PowerPoint for a mock research study in which we used random sampling to study the sexual function in men ages 45-65 who were diagnosed with prostate cancer. I also used a video review from Women's Health in which I watched, researched, and answered questions about addressing the unique challenges of Opioid use disorder in Women.

Additional assignments I chose to present on how I met this competency include my Cultural Competency Infograph from Social, Cultural, & Political Perspectives on Healthcare & Delivery Systems, where my partner and I developed an Infogragh both in English and in Haitian-Creole on Malaria education. I was happy to do this research project because my professor takes several missionary trips to Haiti, where she will actually use this Infograph in Haiti for educational purposes.
I feel that I met this essential by researching and portraying my evaluation of The American Cancer Society website, from Women's Health. In this evaluation, I reseached the website for legitimacy, for its purpose, accuracy of information, objectivity, and authority.
