Fulfillment of Mission & Core Values

Our Mission
"We prepare students in our Christian academic community to excel as thoughtful, resourceful, and responsible citizens with a passion for serving God, the Church, and the world.
We accomplish this through excellent teaching, high expectations, worthwhile example, and fidelity to our Presbyterian heritage. Our mission is the same for all campuses and sites; for online learning; and for all programs, curricular and extracurricular, graduate and undergraduate."
One of the many reasons I chose King University is because of faith-based teaching, and King's wonderful reputation as a University. Through my faith, I feel that I serve God, my Church, and my community by providing leadership, utilizing my clinical skills and clinical knowledge to improve my practice and patient outcomes with a compassionate and loving heart.
King University's Core Values
1- I feel I have met the Stewardship of Life core value, by excelling in my education and responding to God's call to utilize my talents and abilities to their full potential.
2- I feel I have met the Stewardship of Mind core value, by working with patients and building relationships with them, which helps me to have some perspective and understanding of their cultures. Many of my patients will have diverse cultures, and by identifying with their beliefs, I will facilitate understanding and trust.
3- I feel I have met the Stewardship of Spirit core value, by applying myself to excel in my education, dedicating my service to my patients, and holding myself to high standards of performance and accountability.
I will incorporate King University's School of Nursing Professional Pillars in my chosen role as MSN using
Integrity- by living morally, and using those morals in all my actions and with all forms of communication, Commitment- by dedication and service to my patients, my profession, while continuing to learn and holding myself to the highest standards of performance and accountability, Service- by committing myself to help others and glorify God, Accountability- by making decisions based on knowledge, and taking responsibility for my actions and decision making, Civility- by being polite, respectful, and kind, and finally Compassion- by allowing myself to feel sorrow and sympathy for other people who are experiencing challenges and suffering.
The service-learning projects I completed for this program and wanted to discuss are the group projects from Adult and Geriatrics and the Pediatric Service Learning project. My group and I had the honor to attend the Blue Devil drug store in Castlewood, Virginia, where we educated many people on Polypharmacy that day. As people came by to pick up their prescriptions we handed out a simple questionnaire and discussed the dangers of Polypharmacy with them. The Pharmacist/ owner also joined us in discussing Polypharmacy with her customers. My group and I also had the pleasure of educating children and young adults on Water safety at the Aquatic Center in Kingsport for Pediatrics. When we started discussing water safety with the children, we never dreamed that we would also have parents involved in the educational project. We discussed Statistics, who was at risk for drowning, prevention, IRS training, activities for different age groups, and appropriate certified floatation devices. I feel that by being involved in our communities, not only do we show Service and Commitment, we also show Integrity, Civility, and Accountability by being educators and community leaders in our new roles.
